A global network of 200 Fab Labs – or fabrication laboratories – equipped with manufacturing equipment, is encouraging people from all walks of life to put their creativity to the test and produce almost anything. Fab lab users not only access the facility’s equipment; they also share their skills and experiences with a community of users worldwide. In this video clip, Airbus’ Alain Fontaine speaks about the important role that innovation plays at Airbus and the benefits that a fab lab could bring to Airbus. The video also features MIT professor and Fab Lab founder Neil Gershenfeld who explains the Fab Lab concept. Airbus plans to open its first in-house Fab Lab in Toulouse, France, during the first half of 2013.
