Having succeeded in entering the world’s air transport sector with its widebody A300 and A310, Airbus faced a new challenge in 1984 – expanding into the short- and medium-haul market, long dominated by the 737 and DC-9.  Airbus anticipated operator needs and designed the single-aisle A320, which opened up new possibilities for operators around the globe.
